LIFE IN THE SPIRIT 2.
The importance of maintaining spirit–filled life.
2Timothy 1:6.
It is the responsibility of every believer to maintain his own spiritual life.
Failure to do this will eventually result in backsliding and loss of power.
Fire needs constant attention if it’s to remain blazing, our spiritual life also need constant monitoring.
When the householder goes to sleep his fire goes out, when a Christian sleeps his spiritual fire goes out.
How to maintain spirit filled-life.
Here are specific steps that we must take to ensure that we are walking in the spirit.
1. Seeking fresh refilling.
Every believer must desire to be refilled with the spirit throughout his entire life.
Ephesians 5:18 the verb ‘’be filled ‘’ is present passive imperative tense. Meaning ‘’being filled with the spirit.’’
On the day of Pentecost the disciples were baptized in the Holy Spirit [acts 2:4] and were filled again in [acts 4:8, 31].
2. Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:17-19
Prayer keeps the fire of the spirit burning.
Prayer keeps you connected to God the source of power.
3. Be fervent in worship.
Worship is the key to maintain spirit filled life.
Worship ushers in ‘’times of refreshing….from the Lord.’’
Worship should include private worship [psalms 103:4]
Cooperate worship [Hebrews 10:25 ‘’let us not give up meeting together , as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another –and all the more as we see the day approaching.’’
As you worship your spirit is renewed.
4. Meditate on the word of God
Psalms 1:1-3.
The word of God is food of spiritual life.
Mathew 4:4.
5. Walk by faith.
To walk by faith is to walk by the spirit.
Galatians 3:2, 14.
Faith makes as continuously receive the promise of God.
6. Walk in obedience.
Obedient, holy living is a requirement for maintaining a spirit filled life.
In Ephesians 4:29-31, Paul made a list of sins that grieve the holy spirit of God
Unwholesome talk [corrupt speech].
Bitterness [grudges].
Rage[uncontrolled anger]
Anger [desire to hurt and fight back].
Brawling [noisy, violent, clamor].
Slander [abusive and insulting language].
Malice [feeling hatred that causes desire to harm].
This unholy actions will quench the spirit moving in our lives.
But when we obey the voice of the spirit his presence grows stronger in us.
Obedience is the key to walking with God the source of power.
Conclusion.
Life in the spirit is not automatic thing, it must be maintained.
